Sunflower in the Wild
This is Messier 63, better known as the Sunflower Galaxy – but this time, it’s out in the wild. I spent six nights on this target with my Artec 250EZ, aiming to reveal the faint tidal features surrounding the bright spiral. These extended structures are evidence of past interactions and are incredibly faint, so I needed long integration and careful processing to bring them out.
I tried to balance the bright, detailed core with the soft glow of the outer halo, which stretches much farther than it seems at first glance. It’s always rewarding to see what lies beyond the obvious...
