Save the Night Sky

The night belongs not just to us humans, but to the flora and fauna of the planet as well. But we may lose the night altogether. Today (March 9, 2026) is your last chance to sign the petition against Reflect Orbital; a startup company planning to deploy 50,000 giant space mirrors to illuminate large patches of the Earth at night. Should you be in such a patch, there is no place to hide. It will uniformly illuminate everything: your backyard, roof, creek, trees, and nests, with the brightness of 100 full moons (and, with many mirrors, up to daylight). All this will be focused into a star-like, glaring object moving overhead. You can sign DarkSky International's open letter, the change dot org petition, and, most importantly, can make a public statement at FCC, asking them not to let this happen. Professor Gaspar Bakos gathered all of the instructions on his page dedicated to DeflectOrbital: linked in the first comment.
