I watched the only day-and-a-half old Moon set over the Indian Ocean. Less than a day after the new moon, the thin crescent was only about 4% illuminated. After sunset as the sky gets dark, it is the best time of the month to see the earthshine phenomenon - i.e. this is when the dark side of the moon is visible thanks to sunlight reflected from the Earth and we get to see the entire disk. photo credit The Space Koala
