Is the SeeStar S70 coming? Maybe. But while we wait, here’s how to build your own smart telescope - with way more power and flexibility. Smart telescopes like the ZWO SeeStar have...

What I dislike and I am very surprised most people don't seem to care is immersion. I just don't like looking at screens. At all. I feel it kills the magic. This is where a digital eyepiece like the Pegasus SmartEye makes perfect sense. You get all the benefits from EAA while keeping the immersion and mystery alive because you are literally viewing the night sky via a 90 degree immersive high resolution digital eyepiece. It's exactly the same feeling as looking via a regular eyepiece. A screen kills this immersion and feeling.

I understand where you're coming from! I feel that people have very different needs/preferences which is why it's awesome there are options for this all. If someone is coming from the world of the Seestar/Dwarf and wants a step up, they're likely already used to looking at screens. Whereas if someone is currently doing mostly visual but wants to start doing EAA, the SmartEye is an awesome in-between!

Thank you! Can I make a video of the moon with this setup ?🙏

@the_space_koala
@the_space_koala

you can, esp with the 80mm lens. But small refractors like these are not large enough to take high-resolution detail photos of craters or other surface details, they're more suited to full moon / moon phase photos

Yeah. Not quite. Nice try though. I like your channel .. I will sub.

So... the Askar V is discontinued... do you have a follow up video to replace this? I am interested and was very excited about the Askar V in this video.

Great video! Besides the added cost would the Pegasus smart scope work well with a set up like this keeping the simplicity while adding the eye pieces screen capability?

The Smart Eye is very fun to use but is primarily aimed at electronically assisted visual observation not astrophotography. As a standalone device, today it doesn’t support things that would be more than helpful, such as polar alignment, flat calibration and guiding. I know they have these on their to-do list so hopefully soon it can be an all-around astrophotography solution in addition to a device for astronomical outreach which is what I primarily see it as today

Great video. I've always done visual astronomy but picked up a Seestar S50 and am blown away by the ease of use. Maybe a dumb question, but can I set up a rig like this to work with my big pier mounted SCT?

@the_space_koala
@the_space_koala

Sure you can! Depending on which SCT it is you may be better off with the 2600MC AIR with larger pixels and a larger FOV though

This video is 100% what I was needing to see right now. I'm at the convergence point between my Seestar S30 and a traditional rig. Thank you!

Well, I did it! Exactly what this video is about. After entering astrophotography with a S30 Pro and loving it…. I ordered equipment. On the way is 2600MC Air, EAF Pro, ZWO CAA, Askar 71F with reducer, Apertura Heavy Duty tripod with ZWO pier extension,Synergy filter and a few other odds and ends. Now I only have to decide on a Am3N or AM5N. 🤘🏻

@the_space_koala
@the_space_koala

Oh wow awesome! Welcome to the dark side 😅 The am3 is enough for this rig while the am5 is more future proof - I guess it just depends on your preference /budget!

@Image-X
@Image-X

@the_space_koalaThanks! I’ve been a semi pro photographer for years with a DSLR…. just not Astro. I want more quality than the S30 Pro files. Plus, I enjoy the solitude under a clear dark sky and just the whole process/experience. The AM3N is probably getting the nod for mobility since I have to set up at a dark site and won’t be shooting from home. If I were, it’d be AM5N for sure! Thanks for all the videos and knowledge you share! 👊

For Gods sake woman, keep your hands still! As for the fake squeaky voice!

This is exactly what MANY want to do. After buying my S30 Pro and absolutely loving it…. I want to build a rig that behaves similarly. The Seestar is great but much better pictures can be had with better refractors and more resolution.

Thank you so much, this is really interesting and exciting, cheers

What an excellent video, one of your best. As a Seestar S50 owner you have certainly made the transition to a conventional astrophotography rig appear less daunting. Something to think about.

zwo is just a modulkar seestar and the apple of the astrophotography world

I am kinda looking at the askar 50p for a cheaper build as it is a $299 astragraph

Thanks so much for this! I just recently got a Dwarf 3. I've only had occasion to use it about half a dozen times so far (mostly because of cloud cover in our area), but have really enjoyed it. It's nice to have an idea of potential options later on down the road if/when I want to look into more capable gear. 🙂

I’m so afraid to take this next step because I’m so afraid I’m not gonna like what I buy and need more

For a lot of us it’s never enough but that doesn’t mean you don’t like it. If you have an Astro club near you it’s a good idea to reach out to people so you can see the equipment up close and personal before buying, if that helps
