I Captured The Solar Eclipse - Here's how it went

On March 29, a partial solar eclipse was visible across much of Europe and North America. I tried to capture it from the south of Switzerland — but of course, the clouds had other...

Same problems last April. Heading into totality with 100% overcast skies. Best guess on focusing. I guess it’s off to Tunisia next year!

Can you recommended me budget telescope to see the stars galaxy

Here in Madrid we were lucky and have no clouds, I took a 45s timelapse of the around 90 mins eclipse with my Seestar S50 🙂

You still got a great result. For me it wasn't even worth to set anything up. There was not sun visible, only thick gray clouds. Greetings from east Austria.

sorry to hear that! This video would've ended in a very different way if I didn't get that 1 lucky 10-second video lol

Great work and enjoyable video as always. I went through a similar experience during the Great American solar eclipse in 2024. I traveled all the way from my country (Trinidad) to Dallas, Texas. It rained all morning and literally seconds before the eclipse the sky cleared up and I captured it in all its beauty. My image made local newspapers and news. An unforgettable experience that truly tested my patience. LOL

I traveled to Texas as well (from Switzerland). I was near Austin, but took a last minute trip a bit further north and got lucky!

Awesome effort and great result, especially considering the circumstances! I love the composition, the sun looks so massive and haunting here - really gives it presence and scale! Three questions: - That amount of granularity, with basically no filter? Any special sauce to that, or "just" the power of the Edge HD 11? Would a regular 6nm Ha filter increased the already amazing contrast even further? - Why is the moon's circumference blurry? Sure can't be DoF? The sun itself has a lot more definition. - Why is there no dedicated sunscope or Quark in your arsenal - or wouldn't you have used it for this event anyway?

Thank you for saying that. the granularity is normal, and at this magnification it is readily visible in any color in the continuum. If you want to see better details, actually a green solar continuum filter is recommended, not h alpha. I wouldn't consider the edge of the moon blurry. of course it's not the sharpest thing ever, but if you're thinking of the fact that it's not a smooth circle, those are the lunar mountains seen from the side. I do have both a dedicated scope and a quark - I mentioned at the start of the video that I was planning to use the quark but I changed the plan when I saw how cloudy it was

@the_space_koala Thank you for the information and sorry for not listening carefully about the Lunt/Quark! Please don't get me wrong about the edge of the moon - if anything, it greatly adds to the feel of the image and gives it a 3D effect! Thinking about it ... could it be due to its motion?

I’m pretty sure you could reward your efforts with a cocktail in the hot tube..my wife’s idea.

It was total clouds here in Dublin Ireland 😭. Another good thing about the picture you got is that you can see mountains on the edge of the moon. 👍

Two scopes, cloud drama, and a teaser 10-second window—talk about an eclipse keeping you on your toes! The suspenseful element made for edge-of-the-seat viewing. So glad you caught that magic moment! I love, Love, LOVE the 11” final result. That was ‘lucky’ imaging in more ways than one!

Thank you so much for saying that! I’m glad you liked the video - had it not been for those 10 seconds, I would’ve had to call it unlucky imaging
