Did you used Pixelmath to combine the G and B of both filters as a single expression as 0.25 for each one ? I will shortly receive the Scorpio Astro 2” 7nm SII +OIII filter. I’ll keep you posted and send you a test image of it. Thanks, merci, grazie Patrick Québec, Canada
I made a very detailed follow-up tutorial after this video as a lot of people asked the same thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_hU3cHkKHI
@the_space_koalaoh sorry, missed that. Thanks
Great information! I have a question - Is Optolong L-ultimate + L-Synergy a good combination? Since 3nm will dominant Ha, and they have 2 different bandwidths. Will they go well together?
Yes I would use that combo. The Ha will be more selective on the L-ultimate shots but at the end of the day this will just improve the final image. The L-ultimate outperforms the L-Extreme
@the_space_koalaThank you so much. You’re amazing! Cheers
Curious to know why you're channel is called 'The Space Koala'?
I just like koalas :)
Great video, thank you. That unstacked single shot looks very pleasing. And getting an even stronger O3 signal when combining 2 filters like you did is always a great thing to do. Best wishes and clear skies from germany
Im new to all this. My question: Why not use L-extreme/L-ultimate and then just a simple SII Filter? Why do we need 2x OIII?
that is because if you use a simple Sii filter on a color sensor you are only utilizing 1/4 of it. You are throwing away the majority of the light. This way you utilize more of it
I'm slowly buying filters and starting to learn which ones to get. Would this filter be usuable with a asi color camera to get a hubble pallet? I got the L Extreme to do nebulas atm, its giving me lots of opportunity to learn in my bortle 7 skies.
you could consider the L-synergy shown here which will be a great match for the L-extreme you already have
Question, if you only have a filter draw, is it recommended to shoot each filter on two different nites
there is no problem doing them during the same night, apart from the necessity to potentially having to take flats in the middle of the night
Hello! I’m ordering a ZWO mount and OSC this weekend to go with my Tak FSQ-85. I’d like to order a couple of filters too. Just wondered if you (or any other viewer) has yet paired the Synergy with the Ultimate? I’d prefer the Ultimate over the eXtreme but I know it’s not the coupling Optolong seem to recommend. Has anyone used the Synergy with the Ultimate and would they recommend this pairing? Sorry for a beginner question. Awesome channel!
I would 100% pair the synergy with the Ultimate. I would to if my Ultimate hadn't gone myseriously missing a few months ago... :D
@the_space_koalathanks so much Luca! 😊
Nice video. Do you have a video on what filters work with what type of object? For example an Ha filter works with the Veil Nebula or an emission nebula or a galaxy, etc. Thanx for the info.
hey - no I don't have one currently - but I'll add it to my long list of ideas, thank you!
would L-enhance and L-synergy combo work or would 'enhance' be too wide of spectrum to have the proper effect like you did here with 'extreme'?
it would work but you would have less contrast compared to the extreme or ultimate
@the_space_koala yes that makes sense. thank you.
I have the L-Ultimate and now plan to get this one... And likely a filter wheel... It is expensive watching your channel!!!!!!! Thanks Luca!
hahaha
There’s SV220 SII & OIII 7nm now
Great video. I have the Askar D filters and while I"ve only got a bit of experience, I haven't noticed the halos that were mentioned.
it could be that it differs between samples, but mine is the C series so likely they are worse
The filter arrived today. Now all I need is clear skies. Thanks to Space Koala for the tip on where to get the filter.
glad you got it!
Hope u can review a filter from Svbony that has the same spec with l-synergy. Svbony sv220 Sii+Oiii 7nm. I really want to see the halo test and the difference SNR on both filters.
Hi Luca, great video, thanks! I’m really excited about this new filter — I’ve been waiting for it to become available, and I’m glad it finally is! I currently use an ASI533MC with the Optolong L-Extreme, and I’m considering buying this new filter. However, I’m a bit unsure what would be the better move: 1) buy the new filter for my current setup, or 2) sell the ASI533MC + L-Extreme and get a QHY MiniCAM 8 with its filters instead. Financially, both options would probably end up in the same range. Right now, I don’t want to invest further in a dedicated mono camera with a full filter set and wheel, so I’m trying to find the best balance. What are your thoughts on this — especially regarding sensor size, image quality, and the quality of the QHY filters?
I think the only issue here is the sensor size - if you're happy with the smaller field of view I believe the Minicam8 (or potentially the Touptek set with the filters that is more future proof) are the better choice. In general I'm a mono stan so if I had to pick a single camera it would be a mono one. but for the FOV you have to see for yourself to see if you're happy
Which filter option do you choose in SPCC for color calibration?
if you wanna do SPCC you'd have to select "narrowband" in the options and then it lets you enter the wavelengths for the emission bands as well as the bandwidth of your filters
i tried to apply this technique to the squid nebula and got a horrible result, why?
people usually don't shoot the Squid in the Hubble palette, I'm not sure there's any significant sulfur signal there. You're better off using only a Hydrogen + Oxygen filter, and keep in mind that the squid signal is extremely faint, you'll need many hours of integration time from moonless, dark skies
@the_space_koalathank you! I have gotten good results with my Antila Alp-T HA/OIII 3mm filter. Thanks for the great content.
now available for pre-order with AgenaAstro and HPS...
and it is now shipping!
