Seestar EQ Mode is Here! - This Brings The Telescope To a New Level!
Disclaimer - changes in the Productive version:: 1. The final version of the app added a big green Checkmark when alignment was within 1°. 2. Locations far from the equator do not...
thanks. wedge arrived today so now time to try it.
Maybe I skipped the relevant bit of the video. However an important use of eq mode is that it lets you access targets at high ALT. In the original ALT-AZ mode, the S50 couldnt track anything at ALT greater than 65 or 70.
Get to the fucking point
Hello, i love your videos and im seriously thinkin geting one, i have a question, this S30 and S50 with Equatorial mode are just a softhware update, plus a TH10 mount that suports eq mode? or a a new model besides ZWO Seestar S50 / S30?, im from Mexico and im not shure if amazon mexico sells the brad new models or old ones from this devices.
They have the S30 pro now which is definitely an upgrade from the regular S30. I believe the S50 is currently not being sold (potentially due to a new model coming but this has not been announced)
I have a SeeStar S50. I started Astrophotography last year after retiring and I’m really enjoying the hobby. I have an Apple Computer in my office. Given my beginner status, what software would you recommend to me as an old age beginner?🤣 I’ve watched many of your “SeeStar focused” videos and a video on building your own Smart Telescope. I appreciate your help and knowledge in Astrophotography. Thanks for creating your videos. They have been very helpful.
BTW: I just purchased a book called: Astrophotography Image Processing with GraXpert, Siril & GIMP: : For DSLRs, Astro Cameras, Seestar and Dwarf 3 (Astro Imaging Guides). That should help, but I would like your opinion on a software that is a little easier to learn than others and is Apple compatible for a beginner like me. Thanks!
hey, so as a fellow Mac user, I use PixInsight for all my astro editing, but I'd be lying if I said it was user friendly or easy to learn. Unfortunately, none of the good stuff is. Siril is a great way to start processing btw, but in my view it is just as convoluted as pixinsight in terms of user interface. I'm not familiar with the book but I'm sure it contains a wealth of information to start out
I really appreciate your sharing of knowledge. Almost bought the MSM, but Oslo where I live is latitude 59.95, the MSM has a limit of 60 degrees and i would probably move around a bit further north. I have a question about levelling of the head/tripod/Move Shoot Move Equatorial Wedge (or similar product). How important for the image quality is it that the setup is completely level? I noticed you said "2 degrees of "freedom".
the limits of the MSM are misleading and are referring to the tilt angle of the mount not your latitude. so the MSM works between 30-90 degrees latitude (it can be perfectly vertical but it cannot be horizontal as it would need to be at the equator). if you use your rig in EQ mode, being level doesn't matter at all because you just have to be pointed at the celestial pole. in practice being somewhat level helps in stability and in the ease of polar alignment
Thanks for the link to the MSM wedge. Just what I was looking for.
Great video! I could’t see so far a comparison of the same image made in both AZ and EQ mode to understand the real improvement besides the rotation issue. For the ones who already tested both, is it worthy? Because I live in a Country that everything in telescopes are imported, USD is getting higher and higher and even eq accessories are expensive. Is that a meaningful diference in the final results?
I'm a strong believer in polar aligning smart scopes - I have had great results. I think if you do your own processing on the computer, it is especially convenient as you can deal with fewer files etc. If you find it difficult to acquire a wedge at a reasonable cost, you may consider using just a photo tripod ballhead if you have one, or a home-made wedge (if you search the Seestar user groups there's tons of people who have made them)
Furchtbares Englisch
Where in the hell are you?? Can I come over and spend the night in your yard? Or like the next 30-60 nights?
Can I just put it on a tripod and wedge, and get EQ mode going by adding one adapter to connect it to gear I already have ?
yes you can
Thanks. I now know what eq mode does. 👍🏼
Thank you for your video now I'm going to get a sc30 😅
Enjoy!
lol very animated
You are very attractive..❤
After this video, I have just bought S50 + ZWO EQ kit. I am covered for DSO. Thanks, thanks a lot. Now I just need another compact setup for both visual and recording of planets, even employing a Windows tablet or Android phone (if possible). Suggestion on how to make it, maybe employing MC 127/1500 SkyMax-127 AZ-Go2?
the 127 mak is a great scope for planets! (I just saw this comment now)
I wish I could polar align YOU very nice view ❤
Hi, thanks for your videos! It’s now Aug. 2025. Have you heard anything about an upcoming Seestar S70? I’ve been researching what I want to get to take camping when I retire next year. I have a pair of image stabilized 10x50 binoculars, and was originally thinking about getting a Celestron 8” SCT, etc. But besides the weight and bulk, from what I’ve seen, you have to take long images to really see a lot of the cool objects in the night sky. I also spent many hours looking at setting up an astrophotography set up and I can see it might just be too much for me and might be a pile of expensive kit that never gets used. OK, so then I’ve been looking at the various smart telescopes over the last couple of weeks and have come away with the Seestar S50 or the (much more expensive ~$2500 USD, thanks, tariffs☹️) Unistellar Odyssey. What I’m thinking is that we are in the infancy of smart telescopes and so it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot on a scope that will become a dinosaur fairly quickly. So, rather than getting the better scope now, get a less expensive one and use it while the products improve. I think, depending on the rumored S70’s features and price, I may want to go with that (if it has included equatorial mount, 70mm, and a better sensor, I think it makes sense to wait to see what that package looks like.
I have no official information but I honestly wouldn't hold my breath for the larger Seestar model, given the fact that even the S30 Pro isn't set to come out before early next year! I have a video on here about the Odyssey. the Odyssey is great if you want a semi-visual experience, but it's not good for photography IMO. The SmartEye is another hybrid option. If you're happy looking at stuff on your phone the Seestar S50 IMO is by far the best value for money at this stage
It's because Seestar keeps copying everything Dwarflab does.
Tks from Lisbon 👽👽
I'm getting a S30 very shortly, mainly due to the price but also because of the ability to polar align the scope. Portability is also a consideration as well. Once I have a bit more money, I'll buy the S50 as well. Then, I'll have both scopes to carry around with me. Whilst they're not as good as a full blown setup, they're cheaper and more convenient to use and they take OK shots. Nothing to sneeze at!
