what is better this or the dwarf mini? I'm brand new and would also like to use as my grandson who is going to be 5 in April is loving astrophotography. He likes science.

I have not done a direct comparison yet so it's hard to say but I would pick the S30 between these 2 because I think the wide angle camera is nicer

Thanks. Have had my S30 for a week. It is ready to go but our weather has been wet, rain, fog and no clear skies. Where is your location there. South Carolina here.

that's kind of the rule when you get a new scope it's going to be cloudy ;) I'm in Switzerland

The tracking was very cool, BUT the S30 isn't good for looking at the planets, is it? User-Friendly: Designed for ease of use by astronomy enthusiasts at any skill level. Suitable for observing Deep Sky targets/Moon/Sun, but not suitable for viewing Planets. Does the S50 work looking at the planets? I was ready to get the S30 until I read about the planets thing.

neither one of them will be great for planets. This is simply due to physics, planets are very small, therefore you need larger apertures to resolve them. I have a video comparing the S30 and the S50 for using planets - it's in the smart scope playlist, I suggest you check it out

Great video. I haven't actually seen someone track something with it as part of a review so that was cool to see. When you are done using the s30 go ahead and mail it to me :) i want a turn

I have seen many reviews and comparisons. I have however not yet heard or even considered that the S30 is more versatile than the S50. Great finding and excellent review! 😊

I am just about to buy a SeeStar (s30 or s50) and your review really made it easy to compare the two units. I am leaning heavily towards the S30 because of the overall usefulness of the S30 in daytime and nighttime. Many thanks for doing this review clear and concise no fluff.

I love how everyone uses the Orion Nebula. It's the easiest to photograph and always looks great. It's like audio salesmen always put Dire Straits on when they're selling you something. Try something harder.

well I tend to agree, M42 is easy to capture to some level - quite difficult to process into a nice image, IMO... that said, the number of targets you can photograph in 2 hours from a light polluted city sky is very limited. You can check follow-up videos where I shot more diverse targets, but m42 will be the target 95% of the people will want to capture first.

After countless reviews and yours being one that was good. I believe for the money just purchase both because each one as you said has their strengths and weaknesses. So to eliminate the problem I purchased both. Great review!

Looks like Seestar is finally going to incorporate an EQ mode fairly soon. Looking forward to your assessment.

Thanks for all the great information. Does the saved video in scenery mode record both the wide angle and zoomed views? Can you capture a long exposure of the Milky way with the wide angle?

you capture with one camera at the time - and no currently there's no long exposure/tracked MW option. So many people are asking I'm sure they'll end up adding it eventually

@the_space_koala  thanks! Does the dwarf 3 offer these (i didn't see you mention in your dwarf review)

@wadetubman no, the Dwarf offers very similar functionalities!

Thanks. Appreciate the info regarding what factors should be considered when deciding on the S50 v. S30.

Is the target tracking feature that you used for tracking the plane available for Seestar S50? Thank you.

is this a good product for day photografy? Or do you recomend another producy to use with a smartphone?

depends on what kind of daytime photography you want to do. it's great if you want to be able to zoom in on particular things, faraway buildings, the Sun, it's an all-in-one package at an unbeatable price. If you would like to do daytime landscape etc, I would not go for a Seestar

@JC-tx1pd
@JC-tx1pd

@the_space_koala Yes, it's more for landscape photo. Being able to photograph across a valley, from one side to the other, a waterfall or other element present.
