Testing DWARF 3 Smart Telescope: Sun, Gigapixel Panorama & Deep Sky | How Good Can It Get?

When you say stretch, are you talking about cropping the image? I’m a little bit confused. They say there’s a way to do this within the app with the processing feature in the app, but I don’t know what I’m looking for.
stretching refers to how we transform the intensity levels in the image - we call it this way because we kind of "stretch" the histogram. The image you see in the app is visualized "stretched" for you - but if you were to download the raw files, you'll see they're pitch black, as all the pixels are very near 0 in intensity. So if you want to work with those files this step is needed. Working with the images in the app only you don't need to worry about that. I hope this clears it up
@the@the_space_koala thank you very much! I have a big interest in this and learning amateur photography in general and how to process images. It just seems like there’s so much and when I look at a program like Cannon has, I’ll get kind of lost in all the different terms it’s just a lot if you don’t have any kind of background in this. I unfortunately don’t have a lot of time to dedicate, but I’m trying to learn the best I can as I go. Love your videos. They’re very informative. Thank you very much for the help.
Nice, i been thinking about buying the DWARF 3 Smart Telescope. The deepsky astrophotgraphy looks great , better than some of my deepsky astrophotography captured with my refracter and cannon drls. Tracking features be fun for iss captures flybys.
Hi from Australia. When are you coming down here to see the southern sky? You might see a koala too ..
Hey, I hope for the eclipse in 2028!
It's odd about the missing panorama elements. I understand it's "white space" but it appears it is setting up a grid as I saw "col" and "row" so each image taken should map to a cell of that grid. maybe it will get resolved in an update?
Try it again with the built in enhancement software
Thank u for making this video. Could you make a video of how autotracking birds and ufo works? Because i just have it and i cant get is to work on these settings.
I have no clue what you did incorrectly with your astro pictures but you had to have done something wrong. Knowing nothing about astrophotography I pre-ordered my Dwarf 3 and got mine pretty soon while others had to wait. My images came out 100% better than yours. It's a shame too since it was a review and you were pretty negative about it. You owe Dwarflab another try.
I'm glad your images came out better. That said how exactly was I negative? It was an unbiased review as always and I showed the actual photos I got. I'm genuinely confused as to what I could've done differently
@the_space_koala you seem like a wonderful person. Obviously I'm a Dwarf 3 fan (had D2 first). I was a personal guest of the Dwarflab team at CES this year in Vegas. They are great people and I challenge anyone to find customer support group any better. Not to mention that other smart scopes have stolen half their ideas. I just don't like them getting a bad rap. I'm not saying that's what your intention was by any means. You made a review video and gave your opinion and others make decisions based on review. It was very obvious you weren't impressed with the astro pics you took during your review. You shouldn't have been impressed... they were terrible. I don't say that as a reflection on you personally. You did something wrong somewhere though... or had a faulty unit. I bet I've watched at least 20 D3 reviews and your pics were the worst I've seen. People might watch your video and make a negative judgment on the D3. That's not fair to Dwarflabs in my opinion.
I see your point - in my evaluation I said that the images were good for the tiny optics they are. I am perplexed that someone would have the impression I didn't like the D3 based on this video - when I actually did and I thought that was clear too. I met the Dwarf team at NEAF this year as well and found them lovely too, btw!
Is this telescope worth watching planets .
no, the aperture is too small to view planets properly
@the_space_koala Thanks 👍 I have 150 MM x 750 MM (F5) Telescope for planet viewing . I was thinking of purchasing DWARF 3 for deep space observations . I am from India .
if your 150 is on a tracking mount, it will be much better for deep sky than the dwarf! (of course you'll still need a camera etc)
@the_space_koala You are right , but we have very very high mountain in Northern part of India , in the state of Ladakh . Over there , there are no atmospheric pollution or light pollution at all and skies are also clear almost around the year . We also go for tracking there, once a year in summers in the month of May , June and July . So I was thinking it is rather difficult to carry 150 x 750 telescope at such heights, then to carry small & handy telescope, that's the reason I was thinking of purchasing DWARF 3 telescope, so that it can be carried along quite easily. Still friends suggestion are Paramount.❤❤
Thanks for the video. I've ordered the Dwarf 3 and am waiting for delivery. You've helped me understand a few aspects of use. It's really different to many of the unboxing and tripod setup videos. I always enjoy watching your videos, but this one in particular gave me a lot of useful information.
You made me understand the settings in my Dwarf3 quite a bit more. Thank you for the video! 😁
Great video, my Dwarf3 just turned up yesterday, looking forward to it... How did you stitch the panoramic images?
It does find and track the sun but you need to use astro mode. Using photo mode just gives you low resolution jpgs whereas Astro gives you .fit files
The newer update has a setting for 120s exposures, so now we can go nebula-hunting like crazy.
I have to try that out
I wish you could use the 120s (or even 90s) in Schedule mode though :(
Will any highly portable telescope do "all the work?" I don't want to waste a ton of time in front of a computer screen.
It depends on your standards for the photo. All the smart scopes will give you something - but if you want to get out the maximum quality possible, you’ll have to process it yourself. But tons of people are content with the out of the box pictures too - I recommend you join a few user groups to get an idea of what is possible
I am a newbie, I am interested in buying the Dwarf3, I would like to know if it is possible to see the larger planets of the solar system. If it has a zoom function to be able to see them bigger...Thanks!
technically of course you can see them, but you won't be able to see any detail whatsoever. The issue is now how much you can zoom, but how much the telescope can resolve - and that is limited by the tiny aperture. I have a video where I did a comparison of planets with the Seestar S30 vs S50 - you could expect the Dwarf to perform somewhere between those two, closer to the S30. If your goal is to observe planets, I would discourage you from choosing one of these smart telescopes. They're good to take quick pictures of deep sky objects
WoW
Thank you for that real live review, please say Hi to Switzerland for me! Guidance & Protection Mannerz & Respect Peace 1Love Balance.
Hola tengo seestar s50 viendo que darwf vende el trípode aparte puedo utilizar el trípode de s50 para darw 3?
The Dwarf has a 1/4” interface and the S50 tripod is a 3/8” so no. But you can use any regular photo tripod with the Dwarf, that’s what I did
Really leaning towards this smart scope love the idea of being able to use in equatorial mode giving you longer exposure time
