Good evening from France 🇫🇷 Congratulations on your excellent work! I just have a question regarding the Svbony SV545, which interests me. Is it compatible with the Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTI mount? I'm reading conflicting information about its payload capacity… some say it can be loaded to full capacity (5 kg), while others say 60/70%, but warn of potential vibrations and inaccurate tracking… Thank you for your help.
the 60-70% rule is a generic recommendation when it comes to classic german equatorial mounts and I think it is true if you want to have a good time imaging and not just struggle! I think it would work just fine with the SV545, it's small, and the limit is not really about the weight itself but the applied torque - which is way smaller if the scope is closer to the center of rotation.
@the_space_koala Hello, thank you very much for your clarification! Sincerely,
Nice setup you came up with! I use an Askar fma180 paired with a 294 sensor (actually I have two and have used them in double rig setups) to capture big nebula mosaics, like Orion-horsehead-Barnard loop, M16 and friends all the way to M8-M20, Or from Sadr to crescent neb, the Magellanic clouds, or the center of Scorpius around the Prawn nebula. I think the 535 could be useful to me to capture wide field in less time, with less tiles. Just as with aperture, one can also develop wide field fever! Never wide enough! Thanks for your video, clear skies!
never wide enough, never fast enough, never large enough.... Couldn't agree more :D
I managed to get an SV535 out to Zambia just in time to get C/2025 R3 in Orion. So far I am pretty happy with this tiny tiny OTA. Good video as always Luca!
ooh congrats, lucky you!
Be not afraid.
Neat idea. I like it.
Rokinon 135 works great for wide field.
I cannot get this damn lens to stop giving me coma. Even sent it back to the manufacturer for repair and recentering, and came back with no improvement. No combination of ANY possible backfocus eliminates my symmetrical inward-facing coma. (it's not tilt).
As a photographer I thought my hobby was expensive, but I think you must have spent a fortune on your gear!
Unfortunately every hobby gets expensive once you really get into it 😅
I actually have a question about the powerbox saddle. I am interested in buying it, and the only thing that has made me stop is that there is not a single review out there about it, and I want to know if you are still able to put the mount back in the carrying box when you install it to the AM5 with the puck. It looks to me like the puck will make it a little taller and maybe it won't fit anymore, but when I reached out to pegasus astro they told me they didn't know, they didn't test it, and that I was welcome to spend the money, try it and let them know. Since you have this device already with the same mount I have, could you tell me if it fits back in the carrying case, or would you make a review of the saddle.
You put a huge amount of work into this review! Love the comparison of images at the end.
This is exactly why we worship The Space Koala like a three headed beast from Greek mythology. 🙂
very informative, and the intro quite spooky! :):):)
SVBony has been killing it lately between the 5x5 series and the mak 127 in the sharp small scope market.
27:42 I think your assumption that "the direction svbony is heading" is improving is unfair to the 555 and possibly too nice to the 535 and 545. I think the more likely hypothesis given that other people got better copies of the 555 is that they have good optical designs and mediocre QC, so on any if these scopes you could have got a bad copy. Of course thats always possible with optics, especially in astronomy, but budget companies like SVBony will be more susceptible to it.
I understand that our (mine and other youtubers') complaints were heard and the later generation 555 is also better. But we will not know for a few years until we get repeatably consistent quality optics in every single delivery
I would have been so happy to have these lenses as options starting out in the hobby. Back then it was like stupid expensive red cat, camera lens with bad CA, or doublet with bad CA.
I have a 535 on the way to add to my collection, I'll see how it compares to a Rokinon 135mm lens on a 2600 & 533. I think a lot of people miss out on doing very wide field work, it's a nice break from the typical tight framing of DSO's.
Hi Luca, thanks for the review. I'm not convinced by Sbbony products, except for some filters. I'm going for the Askar lenses. By the way, I hope for a review and tests soon of the new Askar 50P. For me, it's superior and economical. I just wish you would ask them to enable it for a focuser; that's the only negative for me. Greetings from the Southern Hemisphere. Abrir en Google Traductor
Thanks, Luca! I totally loved your mechanical iterations segment, it appealed to my nerdy side. You’re the best!
You are way more stubborn than any of us 😁 well done..mainly for assembling all that castle together and for the smart manual synch 💡..about the scopes I think the sv555 which I have was greatly improved also in QC in version 2 I think 6 months ago roughly for the price is only around 30% below the sqa also the Ultracat 56 has now been greatly improved but again the price point I believe being a bit excessive for that focal length including the sqa one..I'd save some money and spend for a 400ish focal length where the options are many and the details you can get of the nebulosity are justified by the price point. But once again thanks for entertaining us with your clever and honest reviews ❤
I think ,,Galaxy'' means - our Galaxy. because a field of view. But I may be wrong... Just ordered 535 for my qhy183c and will match it with my canon 40da and usm 200 tele. They should overlap. Small fork mount for both. Can't wait ;) Nice review. I love this combined setups. Why to have one when you can have three ;) It sounds like Sagan to me...
A very fair comparison, with a Cerberus setup that's easier said than done! It gave me an idea for a dual setup though (Cat91+SQA55) where one system will just "mindlessly" take pictures, so thanks for running us through the setup iterations. I must say I love the 535, it seems like a very cool little scope to have for doing widefield type of pictures.
