Tiny Telescope, Huge Views? SVBONY MK-127 Tested

Discover the SVBONY MK-127 Maksutov telescope in this hands-on review. I test it visually on the Moon, planets, and clusters, and photographically with cameras and the included 0.6...

Space "Koala"? your site make me think more about Austria than Australia. but there are no Koalas in Austria πŸ€·β€β™€

Yeah I’m in Switzerland and I confirm the country is currently struggling with a serious shortage of koalas

I recently hosted an Astronomy Outreach event. I had a C8, a Sky-Watcher SkyMax 127 (which I think is probably identical to the SVBONY MK-127) and a Celestron C90 all setup and looking at the moon, and we slewed the C8 over to Jupiter later in the night. Universally people liked the view of the Moon from the SkyMax 127. I had the 127 on an AM3 and did the same thing with a planetary camera in a 30mm guide scope for plate solving with an ASIAIR+, worked like a charm! The sharpness of a MAK makes the detail on the Moon really pop!

Did the astronomy interest come before or after you started living in that paradise?

I have the SVBONY 503 102ED and the MK127 units. While comparing them, I found the 102ED refractor giving much sharper and brighter view of the galaxies, nebulas, planets and the moon., using the right filters.

brighter images are expected as the refractor is a lot faster - as a tradeoff you get less magnification. Which one is sharper will depend also on atmospheric conditions!

My Sensei, I am very grateful for this great video. I've already decided on this new telescope, even though I have digital ones. I want to learn more, and I think this toy can help me. I already have the SC715 as a complement and for experimenting. Thank you very much; you are our guiding light.

Using the finder for plate solving and centring is a really clever idea. Definitely going to try that trick.

I'm a MAK127 owner myself but Light Grasp / Aperture is far more important than magnification.

I bought a Canon MX19f magnetic lazer microscope and can see an old cornfield and a John Deere tractor parked in an abandoned shed on the moon

Planetary Nebulae works with this telescope and asi 678mc camera or the asi 662mc camera. Short exposure times and low gain.

I dreamed a time in 1990 ,to get some maksutov ,or dall- kirkam , nexstar etc .. but it was a litte bit expansive !!!

I never did want a Mak, but I do love sailing. That's a nice little Catamaran in the background. πŸ‘ I did try to purchase a Viper F16 once, but the import to the US made it more expensive than what I wanted to pay. πŸ‘ Ok, back to telescopes...

Great review had been looking at this telescope. The entire thing probably weighs half as much as the luminos 31mm eyepiece 😊 which can also use to stop a trampoline flying off in a hurricane (I've got one)

yeah I thought go big or go home with the eyepiece :D (I didn't have a large number of eyepieces and I wanted to give the scope a fair chance)

What was the blue light in the top left of moon shot in the crater?

@the_space_koala
@the_space_koala

it's a super saturated Moon photo (much like those mineral Moon shots). That part is actually the most colorful part of the Moon, people with particularly sensitive eyes can even discern the bluish color visually!

Just ordered one. Wanted something portable that is larger than my Questar field model. I have a 5.5” Mak aerial imaging lens, but the OTA weighs 8 kilos.
