My S30 and S50 aren't terribly smart. I asked my S50 what would be the long term implications of being sideswiped by the side lobes of a GRB from 1000LY distance, and it just sat there and said nothingšŸ˜ My S30 was no better when I asked about the philosophical implications of whether cheddar or parmesan cheese should be used on pizza or not. Got the same responsešŸ˜

Wonderful video Luca. I envy that you got into astronomy at a young age. I only got into the hobby at 50 (visual only) but now in my early 60’s I am fully into astrophotography. Yep, there is always something to buy with this hobby šŸ˜…. Oh, I also agree with the harmonic mounts. I adore my AM3.

Sleeping in your car, in the cold, for the best possible astrophotography is true dedication. Champion level.

Great Q and A ... thank you! In a follow up I would be very interested to hear about what types of things are you working on and/or exploring? You've been doing astrophotography for many years, no doubt you've seen, found and photographed most everything out there that is within your equipment's reach. What comes after you have seen and explored it all? Do you have goals, lists of targets, types of objects you are photographing and learning about?

For someone brand new to astronomy, I would typically recommend a gently used Celestron 8 inch SCT. Visually, it has enough reach to see lots of interesting objects, it's inexpensive, it's easy to find used, it's not complicated, it's easy to get help with it when needed, it's not too heavy, and with a reducer it's capable of astrophotography (even Hyperstar).

Assuming a 20inch dob was not an impulse buy. It was something you thought about for a bit (we need that video). What else is out there you would love a shot at playing with or owning? For me, my aunt was the Mars rover lead scientist for geology and spent many years planning and guiding them, this also put her close to the JW crew at times. Ive asked for a sitdown or even a shot at the controls should she ever get the chance to ask. Thats my bucket list item. Yours?

When people ask me the telescope question, I usually invite them to attend a star party event where there's an assortment of all shapes and sizes of telescopes. They can look through them, compare different eyepieces, etc. Of course, this is mostly applicable to the visual observing aspect of the hobby. Even so, most astronomers are happy to talk about their equipment and opinions, and it's an easy way to have that kind of interactive experience. Thanks for this video and the opportunity to see a little more scenery. Great video, as always.

Yours is the first channel I turn to Luca . Your reviews are excellent. Can we maybe see a review of your Askar 140 APO sometime ?

Love this video. So honest and informative. Your knowledge, especially in astro imaging, is really impressive. I'm only now starting to dip my toes in the pool of astro imaging as I've been strictly a visual observer for about 50 years. I'm really glad I subscribed to your channel but honestly, I'm a bit jealous with all that you know about astrophotographyšŸ˜†. The amount of equipment needed... and the ultimate costs, are IMO, ridiculous! I wish that astrophoto items for a full setup weren't so cost prohibitive! That's why I'm eventually getting a Dwarf Mini, it may be "limited" compared to a large aperture rig, but what the smart telescopes can do these days are darn, DARN, close to a full rig for a fraction of the cost (except of course to the Unistellar and Celestron "solotions"). And the simplicity of the Mini, Dwarf 3 or the Seestar's is absolutely AWESOME. Name your 20" Dob "The Space Canon" 😁

You make a good "job" Space Koala ! Good sky for you ....Name for your Dobson: The BigOne !

Oh nice 20" Supermaser dobsonian; I can only handle my 16" skywatcher stargate-400P goto. I suggest 'moby' for your dob as in moby-dick maniacal endeavour!

Hi Luca, this video was great. I’ve been watching you for a while now on youtube and Instagram and Facebook. You never fail to inform and give an entertaining video. I’ve learned a lot about the new style astrophotography with smart scopes and new gear for full rig setups. This video was great. We learned a good amount about your background. Thank you for sharing. Please do another video again. I’m sure we’ll have more questions. Thank you for your time
