Why comets have such horrible names

I don't know, I still like "Comet Lovejoy". But then I could be biased!
Do you mean C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy)? 😁 Terry Lovejoy discovered like 6 of them! Of course we all know we mean the bright one by “Comet Lovejoy” but the accurate naming is indispensable in some circles. Sadly I never got to see Lovejoy
@the_space_koala that's the one! But I have stopped searching for them now, so it will be stuck at 6, unless I start again or another person with surname Lovejoy takes on the mantle 😀 As an interesting aside in recent years there have been far less comets with hyphenated names which happens when there are multiple independent discoverers, so we don't end up with tongue twisters like Comet White–Ortiz–Bolelli or Comet Kobayashi-Berger-Milon.
Oh god I didn’t check the user name, it’s You! Can’t believe I explained the importance of naming to you 😂😂 my apologies. Explains the “bias” 🤭 I wish we had more “people” comets and fewer “survey” comets, it was nicer to shoot “Nishimura” than “Tsuchinshan-ATLAS” 😁
@the_space_koala no apologies required! Hopefully we will still see the odd people comet :) Btw I came across your channel because I was trying to show how bulky the C14 is to handle - I'm impressed you got a good system to get it onto the mount. Watch your back though!
Well, you can discover comet and put your name or nickname.
isn't that the dream!
That explains a lot. Always wondered. Thank you so much!
It’s impossible to remember their full names 😬
